More fall doings
Back in the studio/pigsty…
Doing the Larchmont Arts Festival gave me the nudge I needed to start getting pots out of my studio and into the world. It was low-key, people were friendly, I sold some (does selling to friends count? I like to think so) and got a taste of road-tripping with a van crammed full of pots nested in moving blankets. And I saw them out of their usual context. When I make pots, I like most of them for all of about two minutes then I lose perspective and just want to make new and better ones. So to eyeball them out of their usual habitat reminded me that I do actually feel quite good about many of them.
If only I liked making small pots, which are much easier to sell! But bigger ones are so much more satisfying to work on.
And now for the most exciting thing on my horizon..our outdoor bread oven is half done, thanks to Josh. I’m really excited - I’ve wanted it for ages and now it’s coming together! He has done the heavy lifting, literally - all I did was dig the hole for the foundation and move a bunch of perennials. Why do two people need an oven big enough for many loaves, you ask? Because my fantasy is to make enough to trade to friends and neighbors for all sorts of things, and to have pizza parties, and to have friends bring their dough, and, and…strictly a hobby (read, obsession) that is not meant to ever be a chore.
